GWT Announces Acquisition of Lakeland Chemical Specialties, Inc.
South Holland, IL April 17, 2019 – Global Water Technology, Inc. (GWT), an industry leader in water and waste water treatment announces the acquisition of Lakeland Chemical Specialties Inc. (LCS), a Wisconsin based water treatment company.
Lakeland Chemical Specialties Inc. was founded in 1991 and is a member of the Association of Water Technologies (AWT), specializing in water treatment chemistry and services for cooling towers, steam boilers, closed loops, and potable water systems.
GWT’s reputation for superior service and creating cost effective, resource saving, and equipment preserving strategies has allowed for continued growth and expansion throughout the United States and across a wide variety of industries. These strategies and services aligned seamlessly with Lakeland Chemical Specialties, Inc.’s mission of understanding that customer service is the most important aspect of our business. As a respected leader in the local water treatment industry, the acquisition made sense as it expands GWT’s presence deeper throughout the Midwest.
GWT will merge all of its existing business in Wisconsin under a new division called Lakeland Chemical Specialties a Division of Global Water Technology. GWT has retained Lakeland’s existing leadership, technical and administrative staff, organizational infrastructure, and warehousing in Menomonee Falls, WI for the long-term future. By virtue of this move, GWT expands its Midwestern footprint by over 350 additional customers serviced at over 500 physical locations throughout Northern, IL and the state of Wisconsin.
This acquisition will further GWT’s reach across the state of Wisconsin while simultaneously expanding LCS’ product offerings to existing clients to include:
- ASHRAE Standard 188 Compliant Water Management Programs
- Legionella water management plans & testing
- Cooling tower cleaning services
- GWT Support Services along with GWT’s equipment, engineering, and installation division
- GWT Reports – GWT’s cloud based reporting and data management software
- GWT Academy – GWT’s internal and client education/training arm
- Wastewater treatment service and products for: coagulants, polymers, dry polymer, equipment, engineering & design services, on-site technical support, and environmental consulting
- Environmental Consulting – Air emission testing, discharge water permitting, and general consulting
This acquisition marks the fourth by GWT in the Midwestern United States since 2015. The discovery and acquisition of like-minded water treatment organizations continues to serve as a key part of GWT’s corporate growth strategy. As such, GWT is actively looking for small to mid-sized water treatment firms exploring ownership transition. Scott Olsen, CWT
Division President, Lakeland Chemical Specialties a Division of Global Water Technology, Inc.
Scott began his career in the water treatment industry as a part time representative/water treatment technician in 1974. This lasted until 1982 when he became Vice President for Wayne Consultants; a full-time sales and service water treatment company where he increased sales by 400% over the next nine years. He then made the decision to found Lakeland Chemical Specialties, Inc. with his business partner Leonard Tanel in 1991 and joined the Association of Water Technologies in 1995 where Scott served as president in 2008 and 2014 and was elected to the board of directors.
In 1995, Scott achieved the Certified Water Technologist (CWT) certification, which is the Association of Water Technology’s (AWT) most prestigious certification. As a CWT, the industry is confident in Scott’s ability as a service provider, knowledge, ethics, and integrity in water technology.
Leonard Tanel, CWT
Division Vice President, Lakeland Chemical Specialties a Division of Global Water Technology, Inc.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point with a degree in Water Science, Leonard began his career as a chemist for Aqua Search Co. In 1987, Len became an Account Executive at Wayne Consultants. During his time there Len built a reputation for unparalleled customer service, retention, and sales growth. As the industry evolved, Len was afforded an opportunity to start Lakeland Chemical Specialties, Inc. with Scott Olson in 1991. Together with Scott, Leonard continued to grow his reputation in the Wisconsin area and achieved his Certified Water Technologist (CWT) status in 1998.
As GWT’s divisional Vice President, Len will assist with client retention and on-boarding, training of new representatives, growing the Wisconsin territory, and providing stable leadership as GWT grows and adds the next generation of water treatment experts.
